The Employment Development Department (EDD) is a California state agency responsible for collecting payroll taxes from employers and managing the disbursement of those funds to employees through various benefit programs, such as Unemployment and Disability Insurance.

As an attorney, you will represent individuals and businesses in appeal proceedings before the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (CUIAB) and the California Superior Court to reverse adverse decisions by the EDD.

We will provide full training for this position. While no specific legal experience is required, experience in employment law is preferred.

 

Daily Tasks:

  • Consult potential clients;
  • Compile documentary evidence and interview witnesses;
  • Prepare and represent clients in administrative proceedings before the CUIAB;
  • Draft, file, and pursue petitions for writ of administrative mandate before the California Superior Court;
  • Represent businesses in payroll tax audits before the EDD and the CUIAB.

 

Your Skills:

  • An attorney in good standing with the California State Bar;
  • Ability to independently manage own caseload;
  • Computer literacy;
  • The ideal candidate has experience in California employment laws;
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

  • $90,000 – $150,000 / year – commensurate with experience
  • Work remote or hybrid. Initial in-office training period required.
