When You Might Need to Verify by Video Call

In some cases you may have to go through a video call to verify your ID. According to ID.me, this may occur when:

  • You recently moved.
  • Your credit report is locked or frozen.
  • Your credit profile contains incorrect information.
  • You already verified your identity using ID.me.
  • Your submission has an error or typo.
  • You submitted expired documents.
  • You submitted an unreadable photo.
  • You submitted a phone number that is not associated with your name and address.

Recent reports show there is currently a long wait to speak with an agent from ID.me, but you have the option of asking them to notify you when the agent is available. This way you can go about your day while you wait for the video call.

What You Need to Prepare for the Video Call?

The ID.me’s agent will want to see your valid photo ID and
two secondary documents which you should prepare in advance.

We recommend you prepare two of the following:

  • Social Security Card (most recommended for fast processing)
  • W-2 (most recommended for fast processing)
  • A recent bank statement
  • A recent utility bill (phone, gas, electric, etc.)
  • Birth certificate
